Family Medicine Residency Training

The Family Medicine Residency curriculum is designed to help residents develop the skills necessary to care for older and adult patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in a full range of practice and residential settings. It fulfills the residency requirement for long term care experience.

This residency curriculum occurs over three years as part of the Department of Family and Community Medicine Residency Program, and includes:

  • Care of patients with IDD in the Family Medicine Clinic

  • 15 didactic presentations on developmental medicine

  • A few additional community-based experiences, such as Special Olympics MedFest

  • Longitudinal participation in community-based team care of a few patients in the second and third years of residency
