Project Together Research Assistant
I’m a senior in the BFA Art Education program at the University of Arizona. My journey working with disabilities began after high school when I nannied for special needs foster children. In spring of 2017, I transitioned to working with special needs adults at the Artworks Day Program under the direction of Dr. Shirai. Last summer, Dr. Shirai invited me to assist her with her research for Project Together which focuses on grief in adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. While I am not currently working with the special needs population specifically, my experiences with Project Together and with Artworks have impacted my personal teaching philosophy and prepared me to work adapt to a broad range of abilities and needs in the classroom, both at my student teaching placement and eventually in my own classroom.
