My journey to the field of speech-language pathology started with my personal experience having a rare disorder, Vocal Cord Dysfunction, in a time when it was just being discovered and diagnosed. Since then, I have been motivated to work with rare speech, language and voice disorders. My career aspirations consist of a number of related goals, including attaining my master’s degree in communication sciences and disorders at Texas A and M- Kingsville. I am currently completing an honors thesis on the speech segmentation strategies of monolingual and bilingual speakers as well as a literature review on developmental disabilities and bilingualism. My community service work has allowed me to gain insight into specific populations. I have had a rewarding undergraduate experience working in the Bilingual Phonology Lab, Plante Lab, Down Syndrome Research Lab and Celtic Languages Lab. Through laboratory rotations, I have become engrossed in oromotor and neurological disorders as well as bilingualism. My ultimate goal is to return to my hometown of Yuma, Arizona, to provide services that are currently not available, and develop SLHS and linguistics programs at the Yuma campus.
