I am currently a second year Higher Education Master’s student in the Education Policy and Practice department within the College of Education. I graduated in 2013 with my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Washington State University, where I took several courses related to disability and my interest was peaked in the area. I work as a Graduate Assistant for the SALT (Strategic Alternative Learning Techniques) center at the UA and have had the privilege over the last two years of working as a learning specialist with students who have learning and attention challenges. I help to provide them with strategies and resources to be successful in the college environment. Working with these students has heightened my awareness of the experiences they have on college campuses and how they differ from those of students without disabilities. I look forward to continuing to be an advocate for universal design and equitable access on campus for all students (both in physical space and course design) as I embark on my career as a Student Affairs practitioner and gaining valuable insight on this as a Sonoran UCEDD trainee.
