Certificate in Developmental Disabilities
I am a senior from the California Bay Area studying at the University of Arizona. I am majoring in Neuroscience and Cognitive Science and pursuing minors in Psychology, Special Education and Rehabilitation, and an Occupational Therapy Thematic. At the University of Arizona, I am heavily involved in the pre-health community, holding leadership positions in the honorary Alpha Epsilon Delta. My experience with individuals with disabilities primarily stems from volunteering in local school districts and pediatric clinics, though my current work at ArtWorks, an art studio where adults with disabilities participate in art therapy, has greatly impacted and shaped my interests for the last two years. This led me to becoming more interested in the field of disability studies and I decided that I want to become an occupational therapist. Last year, I studied in Copenhagen, Denmark, learning about how positive psychology and neuroplasticity can be incorporated into rehabilitation sciences. I am currently working as a peer mentor in Project FOCUS, supporting students with intellectual disabilities in academic and campus life activities with the goal of increasing self-determination and employability, and completing my honors thesis on person-first language.
