Certificate in Developmental Disabilities
I am a senior pursuing a Bachelor of Health Sciences in Physiology at the University of Arizona. I was born and raised in Phoenix, but have come to love many qualities of Tucson and am extremely happy I chose the U of A. My younger brother has autism, so I have grown up immersed in the disabilities community and always knew I wanted to do something in that field, so I joined the Certificate in Developmental Disabilities program to learn more. Throughout my time at the UA, I have explored many different interests and leadership opportunities, including being a Resident Assistant, a Lab Research Assistant, Conversantes Intern, and MedLife volunteer. I also volunteer with the Sarver Heart Center/REACT and give chest compression only CPR trainings to organizations around Tucson in Spanish. I was also fortunate enough to embark on a summer internship at Duke University Medical Center and learned about health disparities, public health policy and different branches of medicine. The experiences I had during clinical rotations inspired me and sprouted a love for Emergency Medicine, which I hope to enter in the near future. During my free time, I enjoy photography, hiking, and creative writing. This year I hope to incorporate the lessons I have learned these past years into my future aspirations and continue growing on a personal and professional level.
