Certificate in Developmental Disabilities

Hello! I am Audrey Beermann and I am a senior majoring in Neuroscience and Cognitive Science. Following graduation, I plan on applying to graduate school to become a Physician Assistant. As my older brother has autism, I have grown up surrounded by the developmental disability community. My mother also worked as a special education teacher for 10 years which granted me further exposure to what the lives of other disabled people looked like. Coming to college, I knew that despite my desire to pursue medicine, I wanted to take active steps to ensure my education did not overlook this portion of the population. For two summers, I worked at Camp Civitan in northern Arizona which was exclusively for people with developmental disabilities. I really enjoyed my time there and getting to become friends with the people I was providing for. I wanted to receive some more formal training in this area which is why I decided to pursue this certificate.
