I have studied at the University of Arizona since 2013. During this time I have studied neuroscience with pre-medical coursework, and have begun to study the body and mind. As my own guinea pig, I have developed my own set of health practices, including practicing yoga, weight training, and hiking. A love for health and wellness combined with my continuing education on developmental cognitive neuroscience has attracted me to the Sonoran UCEDD, where I have studied disability in both academic and community settings. In 2015, I worked for the Easter Seals Blake Foundation as a Direct Care Worker (DCW) for just under one year, and during the summer I was a counselor for their Campo Urbano summer camp, which was a youth camp for kids with behavioral health plans. I hope to work as a physician and will be applying to the 2017 AMCAS cycle, and if I am successful in becoming a physician I will apply my UCEDD training to my practice throughout my career. I am very proud to be a UCEDD Trainee, as Disability Studies is indispensible in understanding and applying intersectional framework of social identity, which I believe is a very valuable concept to apply to healthcare.
