Where
Join us to learn about traumatic brain injury (TBI), which is a disruption in brain function caused by a bump, blow, shock, or penetrating head injury. Indigenous people throughout North America are more vulnerable to TBI and poor TBI-related outcomes due to health disparities, links to poverty, violence, and systematic racism. TBI has long been an issue among American Indians, and there are still several hurdles to getting culturally appropriate, timely, and locally based short- and long-term treatment and assistance. This webinar will provide an introduction of the causes of TBI, the issues that TBI patients encounter, and how interprofessional teams may provide integrated care.
Learning Objectives
- Review the causes of traumatic brain injury among Indigenous peoples (American Indian/Alaskan Native)
- Describe the cognitive and physical challenges of individuals with traumatic brain injury.
- Outline the importance of improving care coordination among interprofessional team members to improve outcomes for patients with traumatic brain injury
