I began my undergraduate career studying neuroscience and cognitive science and soon found my passion for studying behavior and working with children. Starting in elementary school, I have worked with peers with various developmental disabilities through educational programs such as Best Buddies and extracurricular activities. At my competitive cheerleading gym, I was the lead cheer coach for a special athlete cheer team, composed of athletes with various developmental disabilities. Although this activity was challenging, I loved every minute of it and knew I wanted a career where I was able to help others.

I entered the University of Arizona as a neuroscience and cognitive science major, interested in exploring the brain and how it may differ in children with developmental disabilities.  I am currently a senior, working in the Down Syndrome Research lab as an Undergraduate Research Assistant. In this lab, I analyze memory development in children with Down syndrome compared to the typically developing peers. From this certificate program, I hope to expand my knowledge of developmental disabilities and learn more ways in which I can be an advocate for the disability community.
