The Sonoran Center for Excellence in Disabilities is honored to host a special event featuring Denis Ouma, Spring 2024 Professional Fellow as part of the Professional Fellows Program on Inclusive Civic Engagement. This presentation will cover the challenges and opportunities for individuals with disabilities in Uganda, with an analysis of healthcare, education, employment, and political participation.

Objectives:

  1. Analyze the accessibility and quality of Healthcare Services for Individuals with Disabilities in Uganda
  2. Assess the inclusiveness and effectiveness of Educational systems for Students with disabilities in Uganda
  3.  Examine Employment opportunities and workplace inclusion for individuals with disabilities in Uganda
  4. Explore the level of Political participation and representation of individuals with disabilities in Uganda

Denis Ouma holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce from Makerere University and a certificate in entrepreneurship and business studies from AVODA Institute of Entrepreneurship for Africa, both located in Kampala, Uganda.

Denis, serving as the Chief Executive Officer at Embellish Consults Limited in Kampala, Uganda, has built a team of disability inclusion experts who are proficient in delivering comprehensive training modules to university students. These modules cover important topics, such as leadership ethics, effective communication, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and employability soft skills. They give students a competitive edge in the job market, enhancing their self-esteem and enabling them to advocate effectively for disability inclusion in both academic and non-academic realms.
